Infertility
Couples that made the decision to expand their family and are unable to conceive may experience emotional stress that could negatively impact their relationship. It is normal to experience emotions like fear, anger, and frustration when not being able to grow the family the way you may have planned. Women suffering from infertility may experience feelings of inadequacy, shame, and even guilt. Deciding to seek out treatment options for infertility can add more stress to the situation. The expenses that come along with infertility treatments, the never-ending appointments, required testing, and injections, along with societal pressures from friends and family can be overwhelming and add to the disappointment and frustrations that the hopeful parents may already be suffering from. Having a nonjudgemental professional to offer healthy coping skills through this time can help manage/relieve stress that comes along with infertility issues, and create emotional space for you to focus on conceiving. Pregnant
The joys of pregnancy are limitless! Being a vessel to bring life into this world is magical. Part of that magic means your body will drastically change. Those changes include hormonal, physical, and emotional changes. Along with physical and emotional changes, you may experience changes in your with your partner, or face challenges being a single mother, juggling work/life balance, the changes in family dynamics, or just adapting to your new role becoming a mother. Carrying a child is such a gift and at the same time, feeling stress and overwhelm in regard to this new role can be scary. As a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional, I am able to provide helpful tools that can help you adjust to this new role.
Unexpected Pregnancy or Loss
Whether it be through abortion, adaption, or inability to carry a pregnancy to term, dealing with a loss can be difficulty. After a loss, women may be faced with a rollercoaster of emotions. It is not uncommon for a morning mother to be faced with feeling grief, anger, sadness, or disbelief, some women may become numb after this experience. Explaining let alone understanding these emotions can be challenging. I offer therapeutic support during this formidable time. I will work with you to process and manage these emotions as they arise in order to prepare you for whatever decisions you may have regarding future motherhood.
Women’s Mental Health
The mental health issues women face can greatly differ from what men typically experience. Women have different needs at different stages in their lives, those needs can be influenced by hormones, societal pressures, motherhood, aging, relationship issues, sexual abuse, or trauma. Women deal with unique challenges and stressors that can be difficult to explain. Women are more likely to place their mental health needs aside and prioritize the needs of others. Working with a therapist can help women understand their thoughts and feelings more clearly, work through difficult experiences, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
Victim’s of Crime, Trauma, Post Trauma
When someone is victimized by another person, going back to “normal life” is most likely not going to be a reality nor should it be expected. Being a victim of crime is traumatizing and the way the victimized once viewed the world will drastically change. Often victims of crime are left suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Anxiety, or Depression. Along with learning how to cope with the after effects of the trauma, the person who was victimized may be forced to face their violator in court, might have been victimized by a family member, they may live in or near the place where the incident happened, all of these circumstances can reopen the wound from the initial incident. Psychotherapy has been proven to be effective in helping victims of crime incorporate healthy coping skills, offer advice and support process emotions, and learn how to move forward in life in a positive way. If you are a victim of a crime, I am here to support you through this challenging time as you take steps to reclaim your life.
Mood Disorders
Mood disorders can cause changes in your behavior and can affect your ability to deal with routine activities, such as work or school. Mood disorders that are left untreated can negatively strain relationships, families, friendships, and employment. If you struggle to find that balance, or if your attitude and emotional state are inconsistent with your current circumstances, you might be suffering from a mood disorder. Family and friends can be supportive, but it is important that a person suffering from a mood disorder receive the care of a qualified mental health professional.
